The power was never outside of you.
Our story — a Santa Barbara yoga studio since 2011
Power of Your Om started as a play on words. It became a philosophy.
It started with hot power yoga. That turned out to be the container, not the point.
Founded 2008 — Baptiste-trained, 18 years of teaching
When Adrienne Smith opened the first Power of Your Om in Illinois in 2008, the focus was hot power yoga — the heat, the movement, the physical practice. She had trained with Baron Baptiste, left a corporate marketing research career, and promoted her grand opening by rollerblading flyers into mailboxes around the neighborhood. The first class she ever taught had 47 people in it.
Over time she began to understand that the heat and the movement were the way in. They were never the destination.
She wanted a studio where students were known. So she built it.
Locally owned in downtown Santa Barbara since 2011
After moving to Santa Barbara, Adrienne found herself craving something deeper than a collection of good yoga classes. She wanted a place where the experience felt connected. Where teachers shared standards without teaching from scripts. Where the room felt steady enough for people to turn their attention inward.
Power of Your Om Santa Barbara opened on State Street in 2011, in the same space it occupies today. Fifteen years later it is still locally owned, women-led, and staffed by teachers who live and practice here.
Twelve hours a day on open water. Nowhere to hide.
World record — fastest four-women row across the mid-Pacific
In 2022, Adrienne rowed unsupported across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Honolulu with a team of women, setting the world record for the fastest four-women crossing. Twelve hours a day on open water stripped away distraction. With nowhere to hide from herself, things surfaced.
That experience deepened something the practice had already been teaching her: what is underneath the surface is worth paying attention to.
Today, the ocean painted across the studio wall is a reminder of that.
"I have been able to push my body to the edges because I know where those edges are. Yoga has a way of peeling back doubt and showing you what you are actually capable of."
— Adrienne Smith, founder
How we operate.
-

Connection over perfection.
You do not have to perform wellness to belong here.
-

Effort without rigidity.
Real strength is not just how hard you can push. It is how honestly you can stay.
-

Integrity with play.
Growth does not have to feel hard or heavy. Joy is part of the work.
-

Built for the long game.
Your practice is an investment in the life you want to keep living.
-

Embodiment over escape.
Yoga is not where you go to escape your life. It is where you learn how to meet it.
Yoga was never the destination.
Living fully is.
Infrared hot yoga, HOT MAT pilates & community in Santa Barbara today
Power of Your Om is still a place to move, sweat, breathe, and get stronger. But the practice asks for something more. Notice what you feel. Listen to what comes up. Trust what your body knows. Carry it with you. Today the studio runs all styles of yoga classes accessible to beginners seven days a week at 1221 State Street, and the Tide Fund keeps memberships open for community members who need financial support.
